Import Product Reviews

You can import reviews from any other review source using our Review importer.
If the reviews originate from a listed review platform, simply select that platform before importing the file, otherwise just use our Custom Template to import ANY review (with photos and videos) from any source.

You can easily import your existing product ratings & reviews into HelpfulCrowd in four easy steps:

Export - your rating and review data from your existing platform
Download - the HelpfulCrowd template
Format - Use a spreadsheet application, such as Google Sheets (recommended) to edit and format your question and answer data from your existing platform into the HelpfulCrowd .csv file format in UTF-8 encoding
Import - In the HelpfulCrowd App Go to Tools > Data import

Before formatting and trying to import the file, please read and check the following:

Status and verified field values are case sensitive. They need to be entered in lowercase

Make sure your file is in valid CSV format wit

At HelpfulCrowd, we try to make the migration and importing of reviews simple and painless,

Here's some important topics to be aware of when importing reviews using the custom CSV import template.

Only use Google Sheets to edit the file - DO NOT use Excel
Use the correct product ID if importing product reviews. For business reviews, leave the product ID field empty
A unique email address is linked to a unique customer name
Use the correct date format - yyyy/mm/dd
Add a review status - published, pending, archived
Ensure the photo/video URL link is a direct link and public

We'll cover off each of the above items in the following sections in more detail, so let's get started….

Only use Google Sheets to edit the file

Errors have been reported when saving CSV files with Excel. It is for this reason that we only endorse using Google Sheets to edit and download the file a CSV. Using Excel is likely to result in a rejected import file.

Product IDs

The Product ID is not the SKU, EAN or any other additional product descriptor. The Product ID is a unique reference assigned to each product by the eCommerce platform when first created and cannot be changed.

Using the correct product ID will ensure that your reviews show against the correct product.

If you're uploading product reviews, then these must have Product ID's. If you are uploading business reviews, then these should be left empty.

Installing HelpfulCrowd: Ecwid

On Ecwid, HelpfulCrowd can be installed in a few seconds.

Locate app

If you are logged in to your Ecwid control panel, search for "HelpfulCrowd" in Apps menu and click on app icon:

Or reach our app on Ecwid app marketplace and click Get App.

Install app

Once you have HelpfulCrowd app page open in your control panel, click install:

The app will install in a few seconds and you will be redirected to our native Ecwid dashboard. This is where your incoming reviews and Q&A will appear. Make sure to also check out our main app

Setting Up Product Groups

HelpfulCrowd lets you group similar products together and share individual reviews and Q&A across the products in that group.

Product groups are usually used by businesses that have separate product pages for different variants (colour, size etc) for the same product.

Product Group Key features

Product groups allow grouping similar products so that all reviews and Q&A are shared across them irrespective of which product in the group generated the item
One product can be assigned to more than one group or not assigned to any group
Products can be added or removed from groupings at any time and the changes will immediately be displayed in the storefront

Adding Widgets to Any Website

HelpfulCrowd uses standard javascript snippets and code to make it possible to add widgets to any website.

The general installation instructions and code snippets for widgets can be found in the HelpfulCrowd app under Display > Widgets and on the embed tab for the respective widget.

Whilst the code snippets work in 99% of instances, all different website publishing tools have different approaches and methods and ways that they handle java script.

The following is provided as accurate as at the time of writing this article, however if you consider that it is no longer current, please reach out to us so that we can update it for other users.

By way of example, we will refer to the Product Summary Widget for the following examples.

We will now cover some of the widget installation nuances and behaviors on different web publishing platforms.

Normal websites
WordPress
WIX

If you are using ECWID or Shopify, then the MAIN HelpfulCrowd widgets are automatically installed in the ECWID and SHOPIFY storefront. For these eCommerce platforms, the following will only apply to the OPTIONAL HelpfulCrowd widgets.

On a normal website, you would perform the following actions:

Encode and create UTF-8 import files as and save them as .csv

Like many other applications, HelpfulCrowd requires the import file to be saved as a csv in UTF-8 encoding to ensure that it can be correctly read and imported.

There are a few different ways to get UTF-8 encoding so we'll cover the most common programs and ways to do it.

Google Sheets

Google Sheets is fast becoming more popular by the day and is the preferred method of converting and DOWLOADING CSV files.

1a - If your data is currently in Google Spreadsheets
i) Open the Google Spreadsheet and relevant data tab.
ii) Continue to Step 2.

OR

1b - If your data is currently in another spreadsheet program
i) Open the spreadsheet, select the relevant cells and copy the data to the clipboard.
ii) Open a new Google Sheet, select cell A1 and goto Edit > Paste Special and click on Paste values **only
**iii) The data should now be in a Google Spreadsheet. Continue to Step 2.

Click File > Download As > Comma-seperated values (.csv, current sheet)

Google Sheets will save the spreadsheet to your local drive automatically in UTF-8 format with a name using the filename and CSV file type.
